The Great Clock of Westminster (Big Ben)
Repair & ConservationThe Great Clock of Westminster, more commonly known as Big Ben, is often regarded as the most famous clock in the world. Towering above the Palace of Westminster in London, it has become a universal symbol of Britain and a global icon of timekeeping. Since it first struck the hour in 1859, its deep chimes have marked the rhythm of national life, from everyday routines to historic moments broadcast around the world. The Great Clock stands not only as a masterpiece of Victorian craftsmanship but also as a cultural landmark, the heartbeat of the Nation.
In 2017 the Cumbria Clock Company started what was to be the bestest conservation project of the installation in history.
Manchester Town Hall
Repair & ConservationFor over 25 years, the Cumbria Clock Company has proudly cared for the historic clock at Manchester Town Hall. As part of the building’s current programme of alterations and restoration, our team is undertaking a complete overhaul of the entire clock installation, ensuring that this landmark timepiece is preserved and maintained to the highest standard for future generations.
Dell Clock Tower
Repair & ConservationThe Dell Clock Tower is a well-known focal point of Brentford, greeting thousands of people each day as they travel in and out of London along the M4. Enhancing its visibility and presence, the Cumbria Clock Company recently fitted a new LED lighting system, ensuring the tower continues to stand out as a striking landmark both by day and by night.
Hall for Cornwall
Dial RestorationTruro’s Hall for Cornwall clock tower has recently undergone a major restoration, with Cumbria Clock Company responsible for the full overhaul of the clock movement and dials. As part of a wider restoration of the building and tower structure — which had suffered from years of weathering and historic fire damage — the clock faces were removed, mechanisms refurbished, and the dials painstakingly restored. Now, with the mechanism back in place the clock once again strikes out proudly over Truro, restored for another century of service.
Luton Town Hall
Annual MaintenanceAs part of the ongoing care of Luton Town Hall’s historic clock, the Cumbria Clock Company has replaced the old neon lighting with a new LED system. This modern upgrade greatly improves the clarity and brightness of the clock dials at night, while also reducing energy consumption and the need for frequent maintenance. The result is a more reliable and environmentally friendly illumination that ensures the Town Hall clock continues to shine as a prominent feature in the heart of Luton.
